Hazards will always be there and may even grow, but stronger communities can always cope with them. With a paradigm shift from relief & rehabilitation to Community Managed Disaster Risk Reduction, ABSK took another step Collaborated with Caritas India targeting 60 Gram Sansads under Purbasthali Block of Burdwan Dt., and accessing Government Schemes with the help of Task Force Members for mitigating disasters.


It has succeeded in helping three Gram Panchayats to come up with innumerable stratagem for surviving in calamity jeopardy. This facilitated with Awareness rally, CMDRR Fair, Mock Drills, Awareness campaign in 171 schools of Burdwan district, etc. created consciousness amongst community on ways to deal with catastrophe.


Till date it has conducted 565 programs for social mobilization through Magic Shows, CD Shows, Street play and children performing groups, Village level awareness on low cost toilet, flood/flush School sensitization, awareness on health and hygiene, Sensitization on traditional coping mechanism, early warning, First aid, rescue methods, usage of aid jackets, storing food stuffs for one week, etc.


It is a process of community mobilizing itself in a systematic way towards making themselves safer and resilient during any calamities. The safety attempts have started by sinking 20 tube wells that people of 15 villages in Purbostali Block have access to clean drinking water and 10 families are secured with new houses.


World Risk Reduction Day was celebrated in 13th October and 3000 people participated in CMDRR Fair in 13th Feb 2011. ABSK has rewarded by the local PanchayatPradhan with one Lakh rupees for its quality service to the people in risk on 22nd January 2012.
