It is very common to see people migrating from their native places to other towns or Districts or even States in search of jobs. While in most of the cases one or two members of the family migrate for a certain period leaving behind the children, it is exactly opposite in the case of brick field labourers. The brick field workers migrate along with their families. The whole family including the children, work in making bricks. As the children stay along with their parents and work, they do not have the opportunity to go to school. The labourers mainly come from Bihar and Jharkhan and thus their medium of education is Hindi. Asansol Burdwan Seva Kendra started working with the Migrant Children of the Brickfields in Sriniketan and Sainthia block of Birbhum since 2014 in partnership with O.N.L.U.S AssociationBhalobasa, Italy.
The aim of conducting the classes is to provide basic education and health facilities to the migrant children staying with their parents in brick field. It is a great opportunity to work for these children through conducting classes and heath camps for the children as well as the parents.
The objective of the project is to empower, educate and bring dignity of the migrant children through effective child centered education. Other than education, children were trained in leadership skills and given awareness on health and hygiene.
